A FIRST FOR THE NORFOLK BROADS AND A 3RD FOR K66 TEAM RIDER JAY MANNING
On the 24th of September, the Norfolk Broads had's it's first SUP race and K66 team rider Jay (JSUP) Manning paddled across the finnish line in 3rd position.
In it's first year, the event saw 25 competitors paddle around 14 miles of stunning Norfolk Broad waterways in hot and sunny conditions.
It is evident that more and more people have been caught by the SUP bug and at any given opportunity there are plenty of enthusiasts, both novice and experienced who want to jump on a board and get involved.
Word On The Water caught up with Martham Boats to find out more.
'Martham Boats wanted to make the public within Norfolk aware of the SUP community and promote the sport in our area. The River Authority (Boards Authority) had 3 paddle boards licenced on The Broads in 2010 and in 2011 this figure increased over 3 times.
The Norfolk Broads is one of the UK's most interesting places to paddle. The 'point to point' race utilises the flat, sheltered waters of the Broads whilst getting to experience this unique part of the world. The race itself was welcomed by alot of the SUP racers who joined in the event.
The Norfolk Broads Classic was a complete success and was enjoyed by all spectators and competitors who attended. This event will be bigger and better next year!'
So congratulations JSUP on his podium finish and well done Martham Boats for a successful first race event.
We look forward to the 2nd Norfolk Classic in 2012.
