I started surfing in the 1970s in Perranporth, Cornwall. It seemed a very natural thing to do, living next to such a beautiful beach and many of my contemporaries went on, like myself, to make a name for themselves as surfers. The surfing industry was growing at the same time I matured as a surfer and this gave me the opportunity to travel and compete for a few years as a pro rider. However by  my mid twenties the allure of competitive surfing started to fade and I was drawn more to freesurfing, travelling to new waves and pushing up the size with which I was comfortable.

For the last 14 years I’ve spent 8 months a year in Lanzarote which gives me ample opportunity to surf and pioneer big waves, something which I’m still pursuing with gusto today. Although I still surf and tow-surf as much as ever, in recent years I’ve been stand up paddling more and more. It’s such a fresh and exciting way to surf that I feel just like I did all those years ago in Perranporth. So whether it’s getting people into SUP and surfing through classes in both Lanzarote and Cornwall or paddling my new Fanatic stand up boards out to a mysto outer reef I feel really fortunate to involved in the evolution of surf sports and to have such great backing from Fanatic.
