I first tried windsurfing on a camping holiday with my family in south France, and loved it! My parents also wanted to give it a go, so in 1995 we booked our sailing & windsurfing summer holiday with West Wales Windsurfing in Dale, Pembrokeshire. I took to it fast and we went on the same holiday for the following two summers. I started my racing age 15 and got selected for the Aloha Development Team, with access to coaching and a fun atmosphere with other kids my age. Age 19 I tried for the Athens Games on the Mistral, but my best result, 11th in the Worlds in 2002, was not enough to qualify against other British rivals. With the new Olympic hybrid kit for Beijing I excelled and I won the Pre-Olympics in 2007, followed by my Bronze Medal in the Olympics in 2008.

I received a five-year contract with my first serious financial sponsor in 2007, Skandia investment specialists, which made a huge difference to my campaign. I am so grateful to be a part of the Fanatic North Team, the wave kit is amazing and it maintains my love for "fun" windsurfing! I really enjoy the team atmosphere and the energy that Nik & Emma put back into our sport.
